Creating ambience and ROI from design

Client - Studio Fix

Pipsqueak has recently completed a design engagement via WGP Architects (WGP) for Studio Fix, a high-end fitness centre on Kensington High Street, London. Our brief was to assist WGP in taking an adaptive architecture approach to give Studio Fix a unique competitive advantage.

The challenge:

In the world of Yoga & Pilates the best instructors attract the best clients. They can take their pick of studio environments to best suits their service.

WGP envisaged a unique offering, allowing instructors to control the ambience of the studio environment to suit the mood and tone of their class, at any time of day.

But how to provide control and keep the mechanical elements hidden and quiet?
Enter the Pipsqueak team to find and design the solution.

The solution:

WGP conceived of a supersized blind system, effectively a giant tiltable Venetian blind, housed inside the bays of the floor-to-ceiling windows. The size meant a control system that was powerful and precise but not intrusive, or too noisy, for a peaceful environment.

The solution came from an unlikely source: Superyachts.

The linear actuator systems used to quietly re-position large interior or exterior structures onboard large yachts were the ideal mechanism to employ for this use case.

The outcome:

Studio Fix have several competitors within a few hundred metres on Kensington High Street.

Thanks to our project, completed in 5 months, they now have a unique offering in their Studio 1, a lighting and solar gain control system, usable by an instructor within a session, allowing them to adjust the ambience within any session.

It looks stunning, it works as if by magic.  Great design has enabled a brand like Studio Fix to bring their brand promise to life in a tangible way for their partners and clients.

What could it do for you?
